After graduating Cum Laude in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara, writer-director Steven J. List first pursued a career in journalism. He worked for CNN’s Political Unit, “Crossfire” and “Larry King Live” in Washington D.C., and later in CNN’s L.A. Bureau as a Field Producer.
After leaving news, List worked for a time in the documentary field, writing and/or producing projects for Fox Television, Van Ness Films and A&E, among others.
Since getting into feature films, List has sold or optioned 8 scripts to major studios and production companies (including Fox 2000, Phoenix Pictures, Village Roadshow, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros.). His original script, MISSION: INTOLERABLE will start shooting in spring 2008 as a co-production of Our Stories Films and the Weinstein Company.
List’s first short film, SHIBUBU, won Best Picture and the Audience Award at New Mexico’s “Flicks on 66 - Digital Film Festival”, and also gained him selection to SearchLab - Fox Searchlight’s prestigious directors mentoring program.
Only 40 participants per year were selected for SearchLab, from thousands of applicants, in an effort to develop and showcase the work of the next generation of top filmmakers. List’s SearchLab project, THE COLONY, was completed in fall of 2007 and to date has been officially selected for 12 international film festivals.
In addition to his work in the film world, List spent over 10 years as a business consultant, working directly with business owners on organization, sales and personnel management. His years in this field provided valuable expertise in running a business... and priceless research material for his screenplay, MISSION: INTOLERABLE (a story about a professional “temp from hell”).
Steven J. List is represented by Matt Leipzig and Jordan Bayer at Original Artists Agency. He is a member of the WGA.
